Switching Things Up A Bit

Hello again, my lovely fellow kinksters! I wanted to start things off by breaking down some of the terms already used in my opening post, mainly the title of “switch”. A switch is a title within Dominant and submissive relationships, or D/s. Those who identify as switches can take on both a dominating and submissive role depending on the mood, their needs, and the relationship they have with their play partner. It can be a flexible type identity but that flexibility can also vary from person to person and situation to situation.

The extent to which a switch is comfortable with or prefers to use the roles interchangeably can vary from day to day or even moment to moment, capable of switching during a scene if that is the dynamic that they have with their play partner! Some switches feel rather evenly balanced, as comfortable in one role as they are in the other most, if not all, of the time and more easily able to transition between the roles when the mood strikes or their play begins shifting in a different direction. Others can lean more towards one particular type and, while still capable of being either type, perhaps needs more conditions met to step into the other role more fully. For example, a switch may lean towards being more submissive with most people but perhaps they have a more submissive partner that brings out their inner dominant with them only. Another example would be a Dominant leaning switch that absolutely relishes the thrill of dominating someone in most cases except for when it comes to particular kinks or fetishes, at which point they are more than happy to submit to someone who can fulfill those desires but will take over again either after that particular scene or as part of it once they fulfill those desires.

I personally am a more submissive leaning switch but will step into a more dominant role with purely submissive identifying play partners or whenever my life partner and I engage in particular scenes where he switches into more of a submissive role for me. Otherwise, I prefer to please and serve my play partners as a good girl should! It just goes to show how personal and unique the title of switch can be and actually quite common because of the fluid nature of sexuality. After all, it’s always fun to switch it up a bit!
